- You do realize that this system configuration is a major limiting
- factor? It is capable of many wonderful things, but there is little new
- software that will run on it - and less to come. Upgrading to AmigaOS 3.1
- will help a bunch without costing you life support.
-
- : I have been using Final Copy2 v 2 for awhile and have been very happy
- : with it. However, I plan to do semi-pro or pro writing and there
- : are several problems. I did find it saves to ascii, but the font (I
- : am using the low res screen and have 1084 monitor and can't afford
- : expensive interlace fixes) is very unattractive and even gets a bit
- : hard to read on the screen.
-
- You have a choice of fonts with Final Copy - and none look really
- good on the screen. Most print out nicely. There are also four Font Packs
- with a couple of dozen more - and they look no better on the screen.
- Supposedly, and you should look before you leap, Wordsworth does a better
- job of screen presentation. It also has a slightly different features
- list compared to the "Final" family. The later versions, like Final
- Writer, do not run on a WB1.3 machine (like yours).
- If you are saving (exporting) as ASCII, what the font looks like
- on the screen means nothing - except for line spacing concerns. Will not
- those to whom you sell your services insist on ASCII text? Or are they
- Amiga based or capable of dealing with your PS output?
-
- : The output is beautiful and features are
- : very nice. I also have a Transword, which, imo, is a glorified text ed.
-
- Entirely different beast. As are nearly all currently available
- word processors for the Amiga platform. Except Final Writer and
- Wordsworth. These "text editors", if they can export real ASCII, may be a
- better choice for pro work - they may not be as pretty, but they can be
- much faster and don't offer features you will not be allowed to use.
-
- : I need the following and i don't care if it is shareware or public
- : domain or commercial: spell check, theasaurus (opt.), margins,
- : a decent serif font (can be the ascii type one), ability to change
- : screen colors (to some extent), outlining (very opt.), page numbers
- : and actual pages (unlike some text eds.), and the ability to save
- : as ascii or be able to save as a WP file. Needs to run on 1.3.
-
- Sounds like you want Final Copy - except that you want a good
- looking screen font. Can you get by with a larger view mode? 125% gives
- you a reasonable working area plus better looking characters.
- The big question is: how important is it that your screen looks
- good and how important is it that your output looks good? If you need a
- good looking screen, you're stuck. Unless you buy something used or go to
- a semi-ugly text processor - which is more readable. If you need good
- looking output, there is nothing available that does a better job than
- what you have. Well, not of printing, at least.
